Tyla
The Waiting Room
About the Job
TYLA Age: Late 20’s- Mid 30’s Gender: Female Energy: Guarded, sharp-witted, emotionally exhausted Tyla is intelligent, emotionally intuitive, and deeply protective of herself. She uses sarcasm and humor as armor, often masking vulnerability with impatience or deflection. She’s sitting in the waiting room for her mother, but underneath that anxiety is unresolved pain connected to her ex-boyfriend — who also happens to be Lena’s current partner. Tyla has spent years trying to move forward, but seeing Lena again cracks open old wounds she thought she buried. Though initially defensive and combative, Tyla slowly reveals warmth, empathy, and emotional maturity throughout the night. This role requires an actor capable of balancing tension, humor, and emotional restraint. Tyla should feel real — someone trying very hard not to fall apart. Character Traits: • Sarcastic • Emotionally intelligent • Defensive but compassionate • Independent • Dry sense of humor Arc: Tyla begins emotionally closed-off and irritated by Lena’s presence. Over the course of the story, she is forced to confront unresolved feelings, grief, and resentment. By the end, she finds an uneasy peace — though not full closure.
